My visit to Miyazaki Prefectural Library was enlightening.
I was impressed by the beauty of the Prefectural Culture park which is also home to the arts center and museum.
lt is an accessible place, with a number of bike sheds. The benches dotted around the park make it very welcoming.
The library itself is a well-stocked, spacious and pleasant building. My first point of call was the newspaper reading room where I happily leafed through the international news.
I was delighted to find an extensive foreign book section which included both literature and fiction.
On walking around the library I was reminded of my student days at my university library in Durham, England. There were many students fully absorbed in their books. Not surprising because the library's tranquil atmosphere and comfortable seating provides a positive place for study.
I should also mention thet CD Rom and video facilities which looked superd.
Armed with my new library card, which the staff helpfully made on request, I'll definitely be visiting the library again to read the newspaper, borrow a good fiction book and then relax in the park.
